By Chris Rae. See my multifarious homepage for more about me.

As you will know if you've been reading my pages, I'm not much of a Tamagotchi fan. However, I've nothing against other virtual pets and here's some of the mail I've had from people about 'em. If you find mail in my other categories that should be in this one give me a shout as I only just created this category.

From: Andy Song (song@worldnet.att.net) Subject: tama page I totally agree with you. My friends have tamagotchi(s) and I have noticed the same problems. I have a Giga Pet which is new from Tiger and it does change shape when it eats a lot, and doesn't do the same thing at the same exact time. I know because my friend has a Giga pet too. We went to Wal-Mart to purchase one together and pulled the things out the same time to see If things would happen at the same time. It didn't. We both got the same animal too. The Bit Critter. I suggest you get a Giga PET and suggest you tell this to others Andy Song
From: Tom Bacurin (tbacurin@evansville.net) Subject: tamagothchi Hi i just wanted to say I agree with your points on the tamagotchi. I don't have one personally but many of my friends do. They seem vastly over-rated and way too expensive. I'm not going to spend 15 dollars for that when I could get a CD or something. And don't you find it funny that when most name brand toys(i.e. TY beanie babies) have their name and brand everywhere on their product tamagotchis don't have the brand tamagotchi written anywhere on them? From what I've heard Nanopets are much better because there are different animals but the whole thing seems over rated to me. I wouldn't want to take care of one and the ones my friends have that I've taken care of get really boring because they never do anything and you always have to play the dumb game with them. And the game is pretty lame You just pick which direction he's going to point. I hate playing the game. The nanopet seems better also because the graphics are better and you can pick out names and stuff. I just wanted to tell you I agree. So good-bye
From: [name withheld] Hey Chris, Just wanted to thank you for your very enlightening page about the "Tamagotchis." I had read about them in a magazine and was very interested in purchasing one to see what all the fuss was about, but I decided to do some research on them first. I came across your page and decided that it wasn't worth it to pay US$30 for one of them. So I went out and bought a "CompuKitty Giga Pet" for $9.99 at Toys 'r' Us. I think it one of the neatest little trinkets I have seen. If you don't have a Giga Pet, you should buy one and check them out. I think they are a little more advanced than their much more expensive counterparts, the Tamagotchis. Mine likes to jump around a lot, and doesn't eat much at night. I can't seem to train him to meow, but a few more tries and I should have it. They are really quite fascinating (mine is sleeping right now). Another thing I like is the "sound off" switch. I don't know if the Tamagotchis have this but it's really helpful if I'm in class and don't want it to go off. Oh, and it's not just a girl's toy (whoever thinks that is just stupid) and it's not just for kids either. Just wanted to put in my thoughts! Thanks! Sincerely, Drew McMillen
From: [name withheld] hi, i would just like to update you on tamagotchis, i read recently in the PEOPLE magazine (not that i read it a lot) that there is a new program called CREATURES by MINDSCAPE, it is where you hatch little creature named NORNS and they DO get personalities, eating habits and everything, you can even teach them up to 100 words in any language!!! the norns can also traace their origins to electronic DNA designed by the british company CYBERLIFE (i know it kinda sounds wierd). To prove their personalities, the vice president of MINDSCAPE, ANIL MALHOTRA, said that two of his adult norns became inseparable. When the male died, the female stood by his side, refused to eat and died an hour later and MALHOTRA claims there is no program code for that!! Creatures is supposed to hit the market this month so keep your eyes on it!! another program is called FIN FIN ON TEO, THE MAGIC PLANET. Kids Befried the half-bird half-dolphin by talking to him gently through a sensor, fin fin gradually learns to trust them, come when called and do tricks to reward his new friends i think i might get creatures not fin fin coz i think fin fin sounds dorky!! and a not about your hate mailers, they are cheap bastards who have nothing to do!! i cant exactly agree or disagree with you caus i have never seen a tamagotchi!!! could you please put this letter somewhere where EVERYONE will see it? and please post it!! could you hide my info.
From: Kori I want this on the page!!!!! Ok, I don't agree with you but at least you gave reasoning and did research to come to your opinioin. I have a Nano Puppy and a Tamagotchi. My friend and I got nanos a couple of hours apart and they did the exact same thing (even feel asleep in their own poop) and got the same sickness. Our Tams, however, are 2 days apart and so far haven't done any of the same things. Peace, Kori
From: Manual Andre Gaudnek What shall I say? You're right about Tamagotchi. More complexity really would be necessary. But believe me, there exists something that is even less complex than a Tamagotchi. It is called Baby Dino (further Tagamichi, but no one could remeber this name) and produced by some Taiwaneese Company. I bought it because at the moment you have no chance to get an original Tamagotchi here in Berlin. At the beginning it was fun, because in addition to a Tamagotchi it has a second game (a card game where you have to guess if the next card will be smaller or bigger than seven) and a weather option, i. e. you have to protect your Dino if it gets in virtual rain, snow or sun. But soon I figured out hoe simple it was built. Some examples: When you feed it with flesh, it gets one hunger point and gains two kilogrammes of weight. When you feed it with a snack or juice, nothing happens. If it gets ill, it always seems to need two dosages of medicine. When you play with it (no matter which game) it looses one kg and gets a happiness point. But the biggest disadvantage is, that it seems to have only one set of shapes, i.e. it has a couple of development stages, but for every stage there is only one shape, especially everey grown up Dino looks equal.
From: Stanley Marshall (though it's not really) We have the original Tamagotchi and the boys have fun with it, but I have found another electronic pet that really out does it. Actually my mother found it in Switzerland, and I mean found it. She didn't know what it was at the time. I would like to find out more about it. The name on the toy reads RakuRaku Dinakun. This little pet can do a lot more than eat, sleep and poop. You can give it a drink, choose between six things to feed it, pet it, play games with it, have it read, give it a bath, turn on the air conditioner, and give it medicine. All the graphics are better' and it seems to grow quicker and do a lot more. It is a lot more fun. I have tried to find something about it on the net, but haven't had any luck. If you can find something let me know. It is wonderful, it makes the Tamagotchi look sick!!! The buttons are also easier to use. Maybe some of your readers know something about this toy, if so let me know at abvy@testengeer.com Susie
From: Kevin Smith Hello Chris I have resently read your letter and you are right Tamagotchis aren't the greatest but I will happly buy yours off you for 10 - 20 bucks (canadian). If you want something better try a Rakuraku Dinokun (Dinkie Dino) or Tako Seijin (Cyber alien). If you buy one you will be satisfied trust me. This is not just because I have/had both but it is worth the money. These things have 10 options instead of 7. They have Drink, Eat*, light, pet, status, game (Rock, Paper, Sissors), study, shower, air conditioning**, and medicine options. In the status option you must keep 6 things in balance: their happiness, education (in grades such as A+ and E+), weight and age, hungreness, and temperature. Dinkie Dino and Cyber Alien are the exact same thing and company except for two things what they eat and what they look like. GET ONE NOW!! Thank You for reading this. *: Both of these pets eat 6 things. Dinkie Dinos eat Hamburgers(1/2 meal), Chicken(whole meal), Apples (1/2 meal), Carrots(whole meal), Ice cream (Same as the snack meal in Tamagotchi except it raises happiness to full and puts on 1 Kg), and noodles(1/2 meal). What you feed it depends on which of the three forms it will be. All rules apply for the Cyber alien exsept it eats: Light bulb?! (1/2 meal), Batteries?! (whole meal), Apples (1/2 meal), Fish (Whole meal), Ice Cream (Same as Dinkie Dino), and noodles(1/2 meal). **: Air conditioning. This opiton is used to keep the pet's temperature at around 25C. At 32-35 degrees he will get hot and whine. At 19-16 degrees he will get cold. But at 36+ or 15- he will get sick. Thank You for your time, From some Guy
From: Video Girl (?) Dear Chris, I have been a very big tamagotchi fan for quite sometime. In fact, I own 3 (I bought 2, and my sister gave me hers). Anyway, the other day my little sister went out an bought herself a Giga Pet (out of spite perhaps?) She imediatly fell 'in love' with it and is always watching over it. Yesterday she asked me to 'egg-sit' for her. I agreed and after awhile started playing around with all the little buttons and stuff. I quickly realized there was quite a bit more going on with them then in the tamagotchis. You can 'train' them to do tricks at your command, give them baths, and there's even an over all score to the thing. Also I noticed everything is out of 100, the includes the happiness, hunger, and health. I think I understand why she likes it better. It's kinda funny that I stumbled upon your page one day later. I now have mixed feelings on your issue that you have brought up. I agree with you that Tamagotchis are MAJORLY overly hyped about. I looked thru some web pages and I can't help wondering who the HELL would pay $150 for a white tamagotchi. It's totally insane. I also agree that tamagotchis are pretty 'dull'. But for a 15 year old high school girl, i think they're just right. They not TOO demanding, yet they can keep you busy in those long dark duldrums of 2nd hr math class. (One thing that I did like about the Tamagotchi's is that you can turn the sound off. Giga pets don't have that function at all) I like how they are simple yet entertaining, it took me forever to figure out the Giga pets! What I guess I'm trying to say is that you have to keep in mind that Tamagotchi's were a break thru in toy technology. They opened up a whole new frontier for exploring and adding things too, such as light, motion, sound, and tempurature sensors. Being the first it's only natural that they would be simple and very basic, but they had to start somewhere. So in closing, I still like Tamagotchi's for what they are, and I am looking forward to the 'high tach' features they could add in the future and it's going to be fun seeing what they come up with next. Well, I think I've said my part, and I will leave you alone for now. So, till then... A humble Tamagotchi fan, Video Girl
